Cluster

Recently I have been investigating the more intimate scenes, looking for detail, and artistry within a small scene. Today, I discovered a small piece of the magic, and began to uncover the truth beneath the fall detritus. Buried down bellow the clutter, was a cluster of leaves and greenery, I needed to know what it was, and so I brushed away the decaying leaves and discovered this lovely survivor, slowly wilting in the fall cold. Rather than walk away, I wanted to preserve the memory, and share it with all of you, to immortalize this little plant.

I had just come home from the store, and sitting in the car, thinking of what I may do for the rest of the day, something caught my eyes, beneath the fall litter. A few of the ferns fronds sticking up out of the leaves, I decided to investigate. The light was low, diffused, and gave me an excuse to try something new. I equiped my long lens, and stood over the fern, brushing a few leaves back until I found what I was looking for.

The edit here was interesting, initially I wanted to go with a more Black and White style image. highlight the contrast… But a friend recommended I try to bring some color back, and lean in to a koda chrome style look. I pulled some of the colors back, and applied a radial filter. At last I began noticing things pulling away form the photo, distracting form the subject, fall leaves curled and dry littered about, so I desaturated and darkened them down a bit, until I felt the fern was fully the star of the show.

Until Next Time!
