Linger

Stormy weather rolling in on a partly cloudy day over the spring time mountains can be a breathtaking view. Something you need to stand on the edge of a bluff, cliff, or mountain overlook to see. Watching the clouds rush past, the barest seams between them allowing billowing light to rush down to the world bellow. The thick haze allowing the shafts of light to linger in the air as if illustrated by a talented painter. This is mountain magic, beckoning you to come and stay a while, to look out over the weaving of light.

I had been itching to get out into the mountains for the past few weeks, looking for the perfect weather on days i wasn’t otherwise engaged with clients. On this day I managed to get out of the house and travel a fair bit. I decided to forego my typical haunts and check on Water Rock Knob along the Blue Ridge Parkway. I spent a little time looking for interesting compositions, and found this small section I have shot before under different light. Allowing the shafts of light to tease my senses for a moment before I got to work.

In the edit here I add several layers of dehaze and color correction. I absolutely changed the color temperature, and brought out a deep warmth to the piece. I darkened the sky, and brought its color temperatures up. Then I added layers of contrast, and brought the shadows up in sections. Finally I took the photo to another program to add glow to the crepuscular rays, and drop some of the sheer sharpness of the clouds, while also harmonizing the colors. It was somewhat of an in depth edit, but at the same time, I did really very little in reality.
