Snowy Falls

Snow covered scenery creates opportunities in places you would overlook during the rest of the year. It becomes easier to find a subject to focus on the element that grabbed your attention. A small woodland creek becoming something truly special with these wintery conditions. I spotted these from the passenger seat of my friends truck, and decided to give it my best effort. doing my best to set the composition, framing out the supporting elements, and still giving myself room to crop all second nature. Now all I needed was to find a shutter speed I was happy with to give the look I wanted, the result is a magical scene deep in the mountains beneath Max Patch proper.

I had already spent a little over an hour out of the truck in the slowly rising temperatures. Hands red, the fingerless gloves i had chosen for this barely helping, though I could at least manipulate the cameras function using them. It was a painful exercise for certain, but one I would do again. My thick winter socks keeping my feet from turning numb, even while I was wearing my military jungle boots [ Great boots, bad choice for this]. I could only last so long out in the cold, so I made the most of it while I had the time.

The edit here was interesting, there had been a deep yellow haze over everything during this morning. So I spent a good deal of time adjusting and finessing my color temp and tint. I considered color shifting more blue, but the intimate nature of the scene pushed me towards getting it closer to white with a light blue tone and aqua ish water. Then I just needed to mute the over bright snow, and bring out the star of the show. The waterfall itself, gently finesse a little of the green in the image, and there you have it.

Until Next Time!
