Sun Showers

Crepuscular rays are absolutely stunning, almost anywhere you find them. This is also at the Craggy Visitor Center along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Western North Carolina, in the same position as my previous photo which was taken later in the year. Clouds streaking rapidly across the sky, ridges and peaks painted by the sun in a heavy haze. The trees along the mountains slowly blooming, the red buds, and green leaves refreshing the world, born anew to remind us… Maybe magic is real.

This photo I edited once before in heavy handed HDR, over saturated, too much clarity. I let a third party program dictate how it should look in my panel, and I have always wanted to come back and repair those mistakes. I just lacked confidence in my ability. You may of noticed many of my recent images are actually from last year, re edits, or re imagining of previous shots I have done. This has been on purpose, I have spent most of my winter working at events, coordinating portraits, or doing this. Refining my editing process.

There’s nothing wrong with going back and trying again, working around mistakes and past regrets. In the field I know everything I intend to do, I have a system to set up, break down, and know how to use my camera. The edit is the part I used to struggle with, hence I have spent a great deal of time going back to the well as it were. The more complicated our editing programs become the easier it is to over process, or outright ruin an image. So, as I said in my recent intro to landscape photography panel I gave, relax a bit, edit your image your way… then turn everything down. You may yet surprise yourself.

Until Next Time!
