The Warm Breath of Winter

Deep in the mountain wonderland we call home, on occasion everything you thought you knew may turn out to be just a bit wrong. The days begin to grow in length, the harsh chill in the air seems to clutch just a little tighter, fleeting moments of relief, only for the cold to sink its clawed hands in deeper still. On this occasion, after days, and weeks, of bouncing temperatures we felt relief once again. As if the icy hands of old man winter had relaxed once more, the warm sun flooded down upon us, illuminating the once frozen landscape with warm light. I had to try and capture a glimpse of the rarified air, but old Jack Frost was up to his old tricks once more, as the sun dipped low, the freezing breeze crawled up over my skin, letting me know, a warm breath in winter is soon cooled.

What a lovely evening on Lone Bald overlook, gorgeous mountain gradient, a layered cloud ceiling developing colors in the once bland sky. Yes indeed, it had been warm when I left the house, nearly 70f in fact! But as it can do, the moment the shade rolled over me, I was trapped in a thin shirt in the slow frosty breeze. Shivering as I tried to compose, and capture the moment. As a landscape photographer, I should of known better than to leave without a jacket, but then again I didn’t leave with the idea of shooting any photos.

The edit here was simplified, much like my last image posted here. The mountains fading into the background already had a hazed over gradient overtop of them,, I just worked to slightly enhance the light falloff on them. I then began slowly selectively saturating colors one at a time to give the sky a peach like glow between the layers, followed with a slight light bloom achieved with a radial filter, and a slight vignette. Honestly, all in all, this photo was simple to edit, but I still took a moments break, just to relax my eyes, and check my work in the end,.

Until Next Time!
