Time
It’s interesting when you think about it, it wasn’t that long ago that film was king. A bit longer still when cash was actually king, when pocket watches were all the rage, and belt knives were the norm. What happens next? What do we replace, what will we loose, and does the gain even out? Only time will tell.
I’ve been stuck at home for the past little bit, unable to get out and practice photography in the field, but that doesn’t mean I can’t practice photography at all. Photography is flexible, and because it’s flexible we too should to. I started with an idea, an object. Rather than try and flesh it all out in my head, I instead set about building the scene. Small, simple, but it was empty, not in the good way. So I began putting elements together, and captured my still life.
This composition is busy, but this is my first attempt at still life work. I spent some time pulling items together. I used a slender rod to arrange much of what you see here. There were a few items I placed more haphazardly, but for the most part all the positioning I did on purpose. From where the chain of the pocket watch, to the barely visible bottle at the top. I wanted to have the watch sit in the lens mount, and then begin blurring out the background slowly but not loose the items within the blur. This is the first attempt, but I will continue to work on this general idea as time marches on.
Until Next Time!
