Under the Bridge
I’ve visited this location several times since first discovering it, the sound of running water through a stone word bridge has always been appealing. The problem with this location, while you may get interesting perspective shots from bellow, the shots from aside this particular waterfall isn’t one often seen. I did my best to capture both the fall colors, the stone work, and some of the water rushing bellow to create an admittedly busy scene. On the other hand however, it all ties together in a simple, yet chaotic way.
The original idea of the composition was to give a sharp contrast within the natural world, but the scene evolved into my head as I worked the landscape moving up and down the granite slabs under foot. Bringing elements from the original composition into the scene, including the bridge. Something about that adds an odd flow and purpose within the photo [to me admittedly, your mileage will vary]. While I could of worked to only include one of the elements, the nature exists more as an abstract, fluid organism to the bridges stoic stillness.
This is what composition is all about, finding something in a scene you want, and adding or subtracting elements to best make the scene work for you. Where as originally I was focused on the taller more dramatic falls seen from the other boulder, this seen won me over with both how busy it is, and strangely well balanced. Using the textures of the autumn colors, the sharp boulders, silky water along with the architecture that is the bridge. Now, I will likely look back at this photo one day and thing I had gone too far. For now however, it brings me a little enjoyment.
Until Next Time!
