Weathered
Truly an awe inspiring creature, you can feel their movement around you, ten thousand, fifteen thousand pounds stepping softly, hear their breathing, sense their very presence. It’s no wonder so many people are enraptured by the wildlife of Africa. This creature is no aimless marauding beast, but a gentle giant, keenly aware of how easily it could swat you away like we would a fly, and yet, it too is keenly aware of its power, and chooses to let us pass. Weathered, delicate, and truly a wonder to behold.
I cannot overstate how thrilled I am to of gotten to see these creatures again. It had been so, so long since the last time I had gotten to see the large African elephants anywhere. All the more reason I intend to one day make my way to Africa, to see the wonders with my own eyes, see these amazing creatures in the world they belong, outside the confines of a zoo. One day.
The edit of this photo is simple, a classic chrome style, and muted colors, slight boost in the contrast, darkening the background while bringing the subject to the forefront. The difficult thing is getting the crop right, removing the majority of the bars and cables from the scene, I unfortunately wasn’t able to get onto the observation platform to see them from above without the obstructions. Hopefully this changes when I head to the next zoo to try my luck once more.
Until Next Time!
