A Summer Delight
Seven months ago [Back in June 2021] I stopped at one of my favorite official overlooks along the Blue Ridge Parkway and spent sunset watching the colors, clouds, and mountains. Months of waiting for greenery to sprout out and present paid off. While the grand vista was my primary goal, this photo was something that caught my eye at the time in the moment. When I got home, like all of us photographers tend to do, I focused on the main shot. Now here in January of 2022 I began browsing my years catalog and beginning to make small edits, and this photo from that shoot is what really captured my imagination. Longing for times where I can slip out into the world once more, stand atop a mountain and watch the world turn.
Often times as a photographer you end up with more photos than you know what to do with, especially now in the age of digital photography. With film you knew to make those shots count, but in todays world, you’re not wasting film, just spending time with various compositions. Now, to be completely transparent, as you become more proficient with photography you will begin to shoot more, and less. More as in you will really strive to capture as many aspects of a scene as possible, and less, because you will often ignore, what you might call, less spectacular scenes. Something I struggle with every shoot I go on.
Stop ignoring the whole scene. start shooting more again. It’s ok, you may never pick through your back catalog…. then again if you do, you may find a few hidden gems you once thought weren’t good enough. The evolution of your photography, and your editing style can come through, the story you tell can change. There is no right, nor wrong way to shoot, and your shooting style will evolve with every passing year. Embrace, and enjoy the journey.
Until Next Time!
