An Erie Sunset

Be Sure to see our new Calendar just released!

Traveling through the night, and into the next day with only a few hours of sleep under my belt, it was a great moment to finally get out and stretch my legs, and take a moment to really enjoy a natural moment. I, not familiar with the area, took a bit of time to see what areas people liked to visit along the shores of Lake Erie, and discovered this lovely little place. Just my luck, I got there right as the sun began slipping down, and catching just on the side of the lighthouse, I had to get the image, it was to perfect. Leading line into the structure, sun flaring with my aperture, and the beacon showing bright against the coming night, the wind blowing, rusting everything, it was far form an eerie sunset, but truly stunning to behold nonetheless.

It is true I drove through the night to get here, but truth be told once we arrived, we slept for a few hours in a nice cold hotel room. Of course even with that being the case, I was exhausted once we got to the scene. It took probably an hour to get to the lighthouse one Presque island, but well worth the stop I think. Most people shoot this scene form the other direction so the sun is illuminating the building. The path to the beach was closed, so I did what I could to get a shot framed and composed.

The edit here was a nightmare, I should of compensated with my ISO, but in my sleep deprived mind I didn’t. Instead I tried to exposure blend, but the wind was intense, I couldn’t get things lined up quite the way I wanted without ghosting. So, after trying a few different ways to manage it I finally jsut leaned into the dynamic range of the camera and managed to get something acceptable to show you all.

Until Next Time!
