In the Morning Light

Be Sure to see our new Calendar just released!

As the summer in the mountains begins to wind down, the cool air driving back the oppressive heat, there’s a small window of pre autumn beauty to bask in the moment. Warm days, cool mornings, setting loose atmospheric wonder as the sun rises through the morning. Rain from a day before becoming dense blankets of mist over an endless landscape of wonder. Soon you find yourself sitting in the dark on the tops or sides of mountains awaiting the first glimpse of the suns fiery red rise, sometimes you wait to bask in the morning light, or capture a photo just bellow as the suns rays strike the mountains around you. Breathing life into the cool morning for the day ahead.

Shining Rock, what an amazing view. Every year I find myself up there trying to find the perfect amalgamation of morning fog, and morning light coming together. Thus far I always arrive a day before or a day after the big inversion event. Despite that, it will ever be one of my favorite sunrise locations. Watching others stand transfixed in the open air, birds fluttering too and fro. This location will always be a special one for me.

The edit here was straight forward, deepen the bright morning sky, increase its saturation a bit, and let those morning fiery bands fade to the other side. Gently dehazing and desaturating your greens just a touch, and then drawing attention to the main attraction. In this case I used a little dodge and burn on the face of the mountain itself to ensure it remained the central focus, while also not actually being central in the frame. slightly offset from true center, and allowing the fog to play its roll as well by adjusting its brightness a bit and adding a bit more to the morning glow.
