Over the Lake

Over the great lakes the weather can change in the blink of an eye. In the time it took me to walk from the pier to this location, not a hundred yards away the weather had come in even more. The dark clouds pressing down overtop of the sun, pushing down, creating tighter spaces within the scene. The moment stretched and distended, long enough for one perfect capture, the birds coming in, the father and son at the end of the dock. All as a storm rolled in over the lake, a moment of perfection, in our ever changing world.

Often times the obvious composition isn’t the right composition for you, while you should still make sure to get the obvious while you have the chance, take a moment to find something uniquely yours. I wanted the obvious composition for this scene, but only because I was pressed for time. Despite that, and the rain beginning to fall heavily I still ran around to find this side on composition from the beach proper, and I cannot of been happier that I did. Despite the lightning crashing down behind me, I felt it was best to capture the moment, while I in fact had the moment.

The edit is much the same here, sky replacement to capture what was. Unfortunately my time was so fleeting I wasn’t able to even wait the fifteen minutes for the thunderstorm to roll over this area and work on capturing strikes around the lighthouse. Even still, we brightened areas, darkened others, replaced the motion blurred birds with fake ones. And even with all that, I am satisfied.

Until Next Time!
